A research shows that regular consumption of tomato paste proven to help increase skin resistance to the ultraviolet rays that can accelerate aging and cause skin cancer.
Research conducted by scientists from the UK, as reported by the BBC involving around 10 participants who consumed 55 grams of tomato paste and 10 grams of olive oil every day. Researchers also monitored 10 other participants who only consume 10 grams of olive oil.
After three months, the results of the analysis of skin samples showed that user group of tomato pasterecorded 33 percent more protection against sunburn. This group also had higher levels of procollagen, or a molecule that serves to maintain the structure and elasticity of the skin.
The researchers, who reported this research in a meeting of the British Society for Investigative Dermatology, believes that the benefits of tomato paste is derived from the active chemicals that also has the ability as a blocker of free radicals (antioxidant) called lycopene.
